  • Laurie and Mary C. were present. Two people were on vacation and another had to attend a funeral.

  • Laurie did some outreach in San Antonio at the AA International Conference. She had some conversations with leadership in the AA conference about the development of the GSA Service structure. She also handed out web-site cards to people she met who might benefit from following Greysheet. Laurie said “my hotel room and my scale were a safe-haven”.  Laurie wrote about her travel experience on the Greynet.

  • GSAWS Board/Delegates
    • There are three new members on the Board. They will come to the first Board meeting at the end of July. Kirsten is from Seattle. Mary expressed the hope that there will be an elected Board in the near future and she expects to transition from the Board. She is interested in continuing to support the development of the Pacific Region.

  •
    • Mary and Laurie expect to participate in the Delegate/Board dialogue meetings on July 31st. Those who attend the Pacific Intergroup are also invited to attend.  The GSR’s should be getting information on the meetings.

We would be happy to have someone who participates in the gatherings attend the Pacific Intergroup.

  • Next meeting- At the moment, only Laurie is able to attend the August 14 at 11:30 Pacific Time meeting. Mary will contact the participants and ask if anyone will be able to attend on August 14th. Participants

  • Seattle-Mary/Wednesday/Downtown Swedish Hospital-There are three dedicated members of our meeting. There has been only once or twice when none of us can show up. We have occasional drop-ins because of the downtown location where several GSA folks work.
  • Seattle-Laurie/Sunday/Ballard Swedish Hospital- There were 9 people last Sunday. We have some new people who look like they could do this long term. As GSR, I have not like going to World Service Meetings. My Alanon issues get triggered by all the conflict.
  • Wyoming-Dana -Not much going on…..I am alone at our meeting. The one person doing GSA decided to do something else. I am keeping the meeting open for the next few week in hopes that people will come. I will be attending the Dialogue meeting tomorrow.

Region Reports

  • The Wyoming meeting is gathering twice a month. They have had their third meeting. There is only one member of the group who is qualified to speak at the meeting and so they are using The Big Book, The Twelve by Twelve and talks taken from the website for topics of meeting discussion. The members have posted fliers announcing the meeting.
  • The Salt Lake City meeting has also had their 3rd meeting. They invited suggestions on ways to get the word out to people in the area. They have invited travelers from the Phone Bridge and Greynet to come and qualify at their meeting.
  • The Seattle meetings have modest numbers but regular membership at the Sunday and Wednesday meetings. They are also interesting in getting the word out regarding the meetings. They are considering having some “Seasonal Meetings” that might bring regional folks together.

Present – Becky (LA), Laurie (Seattle, WA), Danna (Wyoming),
Not Present – Mary C., WA

Name, community and what is the most GS friendly and most challenging about doing GS in your community?

  • Laurie  - Seattle, WA.  The most GS friendly thing is the face to face meetings on Sunday and Wednesday.  The most challenging is getting old-timers to continue to come to the meetings.
  • Becky – Los Angeles, CA.   The quality of GS food (produce) is outstanding.  The most challenging is the lack of face to face involvement in the GS meetings.  Many who live in the area participate via the phone bridge rather than in the community.
  • Danna – Wyoming (Southeast corner) – The town is very supportive, providing a great facility with low rent, especially considering that this meeting is just getting started. The most challenging aspect is that it is so much an outreach area with maybe three people in Wyoming in GS.

Old Business
Outreach to Face to Face Meetings- Laurie of Seattle takes the information from the Pacific Intergroup Meetings to her Sunday meeting and invites them to participate on the PI (Pacific Intergroup) call.  Becky is outreaching via telephone to find if there are other meetings in our region that are not yet registered, who can register and participate in PI.  On the phone bridge, Danna will announce that anyone who has a face to face in the PI who isn't registered will be announcing that they can contact her for PI information and we will help them register.  Mary is in contact with Ruth of Salt Lake City, Utah, who starting a meeting.

Review the plan for World Service Conference in August in Chicago
Looking for the posting on the events section of www.greysheet.org. The next Delegates meeting is scheduled Sat . 1/16 at 9:00 AM Pacific.

Report on learning to use the Greyservice.net site
Laurie, Becky, Mary, and Danna are registered on the site.  Laurie has been noting her progress on her committee work in the site.  Danna completed registration. Becky has registered and been through the training.

GSAWS Board Positions
There are three Board Positions to be filled- We are reaching out to those with 5 or more years of abstinence to check interest for serving on the GSAWS Board.

New Business
Danna’s meeting in Wyoming just registered, and has 2 members.  At our next Intergroup meeting, we propose electing Danna as our secondary delegate.

Next meeting - February 13 at 11:30 AM Pacific

GSA Pacific Intergroup - Meeting Minutes - December 12, 2009

E-mail Print PDF

Present: Becky, LA; Ann; Bay Area; Mary GSA Board; Laurie, Seattle

Update Meetings
We reviewed the development of the joint delegate and board meeting. We discussed the role of the delegate and participation in the work of the committees in preparation for the World Conference meeting. Laurie expressed a desire to be a GSR to the Intergroup and stepping back from the role of delegate. We will be looking for additional GSR candidates in LA and Seattle or from any other face-to-face groups in the area. Laurie and Becky have not been able to attend the training sessions for delegates web site. They will be working together at the January 9th Pacific Intergroup meeting to access and use the site. They will be in communication with Cindy regarding their plan.

Outreach to Face-to-Face Meetings
Mary is proposing the development of "Seasonal Gatherings" in the greater Seattle/Washington area. We are exploring the possibility of a longer, periodic gathering as a format that would support face-to-face experience for outposts and predominately phone uses GSA members. We reviewed a proposal that has been shared with the Seattle Sunday meeting and may be sponsored by that group. Mary met at the business meeting of the Oakland OA group who use the Greysheet and are considering becoming a GSA meeting. It was an opportunity to discuss this option with members of that group. They will be making a decision at their December meeting.

GSAWS Service Positions
We will seek names to propose for Board positions and for additional GSRs in the region. The abstinence requirement is five years btb for the Board, one year for GSR, three years suggested for a World Service Conference delegate.
