GSA Board Progress Report - April 2009

E-mail Print PDF
Dear GreySheeters,

Greetings to all from the Board of Trustees of GreySheeters Anonymous World Service.  We want to begin a series of updates to the fellowship as we approach the time of our first World Service Conference in August 2010.

Eleven years ago, in April 1998, a group of GreySheeters created GreySheeters Anonymous as a separate Twelve Step fellowship with its own World Service organization.  The purpose of the World Service organization is, as it is in Alcoholics Anonymous, to support the groups and individual GreySheeters as they fulfill their primary purpose – to stay abstinent and to carry the message to the still suffering compulsive eater.

In the last ten years, the Board of Trustees has worked to establish our organization with the registration of GreySheeters Anonymous meetings, bylaws, officers, a treasury, mail service, policies and procedures, committees, etc.  In that time, the Board has also had to work through legal channels to ensure that we are all free to use the GreySheet that is the foundation of our abstinence and our fellowship.

We have also established a variety of services to support the fellowship in carrying the message – www.greysheet.org, a telephone hotline, and, most recently, literature – the brochure, GreySheeters Anonymous:  A Solution for Compulsive Overeaters, a collection of all previous Shades of Grey newsletters, and the new Shades of Grey.

The next step is for you, the fellowship, to assume responsibility by electing a new Board and voting on a variety of proposals that will direct the work of that Board.

To that end, the Board has been working to establish Intergroup regions around the world, each of which will elect a Delegate to attend an annual Conference where they will elect the Board.  Each Intergroup will consist of a number of registered meetings.  Each meeting will elect a General Service Representative to attend the Intergroup meetings and elect a Delegate.  The GSRs will discuss issues facing the fellowship so that their Delegate can vote their group conscience on the proposals at the Conference.

Each of the proposed Intergroup Regions has a member of the Board designated as a liaison to answer questions about forming your Intergroup.  You can find contact information for your liaison on the World Service section of the GreySheet website.  Please contact any of us if you have any suggestions or questions about World Service.

And look for monthly updates as letters to the GSRs, reports on the website, posts to the GreyNet, and articles in the quarterly Shades of Grey newsletter.

Grainne A. Matthews
Vice-Chair
Board of Trustees

P.S.  If you received this letter as a General Service Representative or group contact and you are no longer the GSR or contact, please pass it on to the appropriate person and please ask that person to update your groups registration so that we may have effective contact with your group.
