The Board had the annual face-to-face meeting during the first weekend in November on the Friday preceding the NYC Round-up. One of the requirements of Board membership is the attendance at this annual meeting. There was a special sense of gratitude expressed to Ralph, Marvin and Ari who are the current NYC area members on the Board and who have hosted this meeting for the last 12 years.
The major focus of the November Board meeting was the Board's support of the ongoing preparation of the GSA World Service Conference to be held in August in Chicago. Board Chair, Esther Helga reported on her oversight of planning during the month of October. The Board supported her recommendation that the planning continue as scheduled. The Board established a Service Committee, whose role will be to oversee the next phase of planning for the World Service Conference. Four members of the Board will be joined by leadership from the delegates and work together in planning the World Service Conference.
A meeting of the full Board and Delegates to the World Service Conference met on November 15th to launch the Committees, whose work will provide the content of the agenda for the World Service Conference. The Committees are: Finance; Public Information; GSA Structure (Operations and Nominations); Information Technology; World Service Conference; Literature; Meeting Protocols. The Committees will include Board and Delegate membership.
The meeting of the full Board and Delegates was considered most helpful to both Board and Delegates. Therefore additional joint meetings have been scheduled leading up to the World Conference in August. All GSRs will be welcomed to that meeting which will be advertised in advance.
New members of the Board, Theda (NYC) and Joy (Tennessee) were present. Becky (California) and Joel H. will attend their first Board meeting in December. The Nomination Committee of the Board still has positions to be filled and is seeking candidates for the Board.
